The little blurb under your video says you would tell us the best oil to use to make our own salad dressings. Did I miss that? I use EVO for mine, but would love to know if I could also use the Grapeseed oil? Love,love these videos! I have two of my adult children hooked on them as well!

I am excited to hear that Dr. Axe is explaining the health impacts that various oils have on our bodies. However, according to Dr. Mary Enig who is an authority on fats and oils, conjugated Linolenic acid is only present in 100% grassfed livestock. Also, as I understand, grapeseed oil is almost always highly refined which equivilates to oxidation. Equal parts coconut, sesame, and olive oil makes a great oil for salads and all-purpose cooking oil. And according to Dr. Enig, sesame oil holds up better against heat and olive oil should only be used for a very light sautee at the most, and raw most of the time. Thank you Dr. axe! I really appreciate what you are doing for us.

Hey Tyler, I totally agree with your comments and have read Mary Enig’s books. Because Grapeseed oil has a high heat threshold it doesn’t have to be cold pressed, so you can actually still find good sources. True it is only present in 100% grassfed livestock and their dairy products as well. So butter actually contains the highest amounts of CLA.
Your opinion on Safflower oil?
Rebecca, I recommend staying away from safflower oil. It’s very high in omega-6 fats and is highly processed. Sesame oil as Tyler referred to above is a better alternative.
It really important to make sure that coconut and olive oils are extra virgin (meaning the first press). With each sequencial press there are things added (sometime toxins) for the pressor to get more oil out.

Another question. Is grapeseed oil good to use in cooking especially for children?
It’s typically a good choice, but I think coconut oil is the best for children.
you mention that Safflower oil it’s very high on omega 6 ….is omega 6 bad for you dr?
It’s not that Omega-6 fats are bad–it’s that you need a good 1:1-4:1 ratio of Omega-6 and Omega-3 fats. But the ratio of Safflower and many other oils is so high it will really throw you off and cause inflammation.
Maybe a little GSO in a salad dressing is not terrible. But we have too many Omega-6: Omega-3 in our diet as it is = inflammation. Another viewpoint from Weston A. Price Website:
Grapeseed oil contains phenols that raise the smoke point. However it is very high in omega-6 fatty acids, so it not a good choice for our diets–we need to avoid excess omega-6 fatty acids as much as possible. Also, grapeseed oil is industrially processed with hexane and other carcinogenic solvents, and traces will remain in the oil.
