Thanks Dr. Josh, great looking shake. I’m going to get the ingredients now!
After I finally figured out which part of my blender to use, I got a rich, creamy, delicious shake. Thank you, Dr. Axe.
Dr. Josh, I finally tried this shake and was surprised at how much I liked it. I did however start having a not so great gassy side effect. As I was looking up the issue I found an article that said:
“There are some vegetables that you will always want to consume cooked or fermented. This includes broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kale, collards and brussel sprouts — all members of the cruciferous family that in their raw state are considered to be “cooling” and suppressing to your thyroid.”

What do you think about that? Have you heard that before? I surely don’t need to slow my thyroid OR have embarrassing gas…
I have been eating raw kale for years and know many others who have as well. I have never had any trouble. There have been some articles saying that if you eat cruciferous vegetables in massive amounts it could affect thyroid, but unless you’re eating 3 lbs of brussels sprouts and kale a day I wouldn’t worry about it. :)
I like the shake- wasn’t sure I would. Is this a serving for 1? Do you know how long you can keep it refrigerated? I just have a normal blender. Do you think it makes a big difference? My shake is kinda well, chewy- not at all smoothie like. your blender looks like a vitamix brand. Does it make a big difference?
Thanks for everything you do!
The type of blender you use won’t make any difference in the nutritional value. The serving size is one and you can probably keep it in the fridge for 24-48 hours. However, the sooner you can drink it the better since over time nutritional values can decrease.
Hi Anne,
I bought me a vitamix. If you can afford it, it is well worth the money, and will last forever. I struggled to spend that kind of money on a blender but it does so much more. It will make soups, dips, peanut butter. I love mine.
Have a good day
I think the blender must make a difference to the consistency and therefore how palatable the mix ends up. I have a good blender, but not a great one obviously. I made the shake and still had bits of leaves which made it unpleasant to drink. I think the taste was good, and the nutritional value worth the extra money so plan to try again with a high end blender in the near future!
Would it hurt to add other fruits like blueberries? I am looking forward to the benefits!
looks great but do you need to take the kale off the woody stem?
What s surprise! I love it. I think I put a little too much cayenne, my throat is nicely burning :)
This is not bad, but not delicious. I will make occassionaly because of the nutritional value. This makes too much for one serving, I drank half of it and that is plenty for me.
Thanks for the recipe
