regarding your banana nut smoothie: should you
eat only banana’s with brown spots that are very ripe? I’ve heard that they are more alkaline, and will promote a bowel movement, as opposed to green banana’s.
BTW, I love your radio show!
Debi- Both kinds of bananas, either fully ripe or non ripe are fine. Both help with bowel movements because they contain inulin, a form of pre-biotic and source of fiber.
Can’t wait to try this!
I just plugged the ingredients list (using unsweetened Almond Milk) into a nutrition calculator. The ENTIRE smoothie equates to 353.2 calories, 21.2 fat grams, 42 carbs, and 11.2 grams of protein. Seems like a lot for MY breakfast.
However, it is large enough that I can easily HALF the serving for a reasonable 176.6 calorie yummy start to my day! Thanks, Dr. Axe!
If you pay attention to Dr. Axe and know a lot of what he teaches, he says do NOT count calories or fat grams. They are extremely misleading and really mean nothing when you are eating REAL food like in this smoothie. 300 calories of healthy food does not equal 300 calories of processed, unhealthy food, and the fat grams are the “good” fats that everyone needs daily.
As someone who has recently reversed diabetes I am trying to maintain a diabetic healthy diet. From day one I have stayed away from bananas due to their sugar levels. My question is do I need to be that worried about bananas and or the cocoa powder that is used in this smoothie? I don’t get sweet cravings often but this would be a wonderful treat to myself.
No you don’t need to be worried about the sugar in bananas.
What kind of cocoa powder do you recommend?
Thanks
Can I second this question? What kind do you recommend? I know all cocoa powder is not created equal.
Angela and Steph- The important thing is that it’s organic cocoa. I prefer Green & Black brand.
Fabulous recipe! I used to make these with peanut butter too, but almond butter is certainly more nutritious. I’d love to try it out.
i tried hersey cocoa mix. it wasn’t very good. what can i do to make it taste better?
Scott- Use a high quality, organic brand of cocoa like Green & Black.
Josh it was awesome seeing you at the seminar this weekend! I wanted to let you know that we sell your books in our office and patients absolutely love them. I was wondering if you offer wholesale pricing for bulk book orders. Also, patients were wondering if they can receive a digital copy of the book along with the hard copy so they can put it on their ipads or other portable hardware?
Seth- send an email orders @ draxe.com
This is the BEST!!! Now I have the perfect breakfast meal. I’ve passed this along to others and they love it too. I love getting your recipes and so appreciate how you explain them while you demostrate each step. Thanks so much!
Tastes great, my daughter loved it too!
